How to Repair Willy's Boat
After reaching 6 hearts of friendship with Willy, he sends a letter inviting you to visit his shop's back room. Inside is a broken boat requiring three repair jobs: the ticket machine (200 Hardwood), the hull (5 Iridium Bars), and the anchor (5 Battery Packs). You can complete the repairs in any order and on different days — partial repairs are saved.
Hardwood comes from cutting Large Logs (require Copper Axe+) and Large Stumps on your farm or in the Secret Woods (requires Steel Axe, accessible after repairing the bridge). 200 Hardwood is a significant amount — save everything from farm clearing and farm building material leftovers. The Secret Woods provides 12 Hardwood per day from stumps.
Iridium Bars require 5 Iridium Ore each (5 bars = 25 Iridium Ore) smelted with Coal. Iridium Ore comes from Skull Cavern (Floor 50+ for solid quantities) or from purple ore deposits found deep in the Mines. Battery Packs are produced by Lightning Rods (crafted from 1 Iron Bar + 1 Refined Quartz + 1 Battery Pack... actually: Iron Bar + Bat Wing + Refined Quartz) placed on your farm during thunderstorms, or purchased from the Traveling Merchant.
Island Farm — Tropical Year-Round Crops
The Island Farm has its own farmland area (unlocked by spending Golden Walnuts on the Parrot to clear it). The island is always 'Summer' season, so tropical crops grow year-round regardless of the actual Pelican Town season. Key island crops include: Pineapple (Pineapple Seeds from Island Trader, 300g harvest, regrows every 7 days), Taro Root (Taro Tuber from Island Trader, 100g, 10 days), and Banana (from Banana Sapling — plant in island farm for year-round Banana production).
The Island Farm's most powerful feature is that it allows Starfruit and Ancient Fruit to grow year-round outdoors (though the greenhouse achieves this too). More uniquely, some tropical crops can only grow here. Pineapple Wine is worth 900g (1,260g Artisan) and is one of the better tropical artisan products. Mango Trees (plant on island farm, takes 112 days to mature but produces year-round thereafter) produce Mangoes worth 130g each.
The Island Trader (NPC on the island) trades for various unique items. Some trade deals provide seasonal crops or materials not easily obtainable elsewhere. The Island Trader accepts specific resources (Taro Root, Pineapple, Banana, and others) in exchange for rare seeds and items. Check the Island Trader's stock when visiting for potential deal opportunities.
Golden Walnuts — How to Find All 130
Golden Walnuts are Ginger Island's main progression currency. There are 130 total hidden throughout the island in various ways. Parrots on the island accept Golden Walnuts to unlock new areas, fast travel routes, shops, and features — including the Walnut Room (100 Walnuts), the Island Farm (10 Walnuts), and various island convenience upgrades.
Major Walnut sources: Island exploration (searching bushes and rocks), Island Farm hidden spots (dig and check every corner), Volcano Dungeon (Golden Walnuts in chests on each floor), Professor Snail's Field Office (donate Island fossils for Walnut rewards), fishing on the island (Island-specific fish reward Walnuts), and completing specific Ginger Island quests. The golden coconut (opened by Clint for special items) can also contain Walnuts.
Use a checklist to track Walnut collection — some are hidden in specific rock patterns or buried spots that are easy to miss. The island's northwestern parrot area, the volcano entrance area, and the hidden cave sections all contain collectible Walnuts that reward careful exploration. A full Walnut collection guide requires checking over 20 distinct locations.
Volcano Forge — Weapon Enhancement
- Location
- Volcano Dungeon, Floor 5 (Ginger Island)
- Start point
- Volcano Dungeon entrance on the northwest coast of Ginger Island
- Yield
- Weapon enchantments, new weapon forgings, combined ring upgrades
Steps
- Enter the Volcano via the island's northwest cave entrance — bring a Watering Can to douse lava flows blocking some corridors.
- Fight through 10 floors of Dwarf enemies (Fire Quartz, Diamonds, and other drops from Dwarves).
- Reach Floor 5 to find the Forge — this is where all enhancement activities occur.
- Combine two rings using the Forge (1 Cinder Shard cost) to create combined ring effects in one slot.
- Enchant a weapon or tool using the Forge (1 Prismatic Shard) for random magical effects.
- Forge weapons with Dragon Tooth to add Infinity-tier stats (requires Galaxy-tier weapon first).
- Continue to Floor 10 for extra rewards and the Volcano summit (unlocks upon completion).
Tips
- Bring your best weapon — Volcano enemies are tough. Galaxy Sword or Infinity Blade recommended.
- Watering Can is required to progress on some floors — douse lava streams to open pathways.
- Cinder Shards (dropped by Volcano enemies) are the crafting currency for Forge improvements.
- Each Forge visit resets monster spawns — revisit for consistent Cinder Shard farming.
Best Ginger Island Activities Ranked
- Golden Walnut collection — unlock all Parrot features including the Walnut Room (Qi Gems shop) and Island fast travel.

- Island Farm — grow Pineapple, Taro Root, and tropical trees year-round without greenhouse requirement.

Ginger Island Common Mistakes
- Not bringing a Watering Can to the Volcano — some corridors are blocked by lava streams that require watering to cross.
- Missing Golden Walnuts by not thoroughly exploring every bush, rock, and dig spot on the island.
- Selling island exclusive items before completing Professor Snail's fossil collection — keep Island fossils for Museum donations.
- Not planting Banana and Mango Saplings early — they take 112 days to mature, so plant them as soon as you arrive.
- Forgetting that the island boat costs 1,000g per round trip — factor this into your visit planning.
- Missing Leo as a befriendable NPC — he's in the tree house area and has a full heart event and gift preference system.
Frequently asked questions
What do I need to repair Willy's boat?
200 Hardwood, 5 Iridium Bars, and 5 Battery Packs. Hardwood comes from Large Logs/Stumps, Iridium Bars from smelting Iridium Ore, and Battery Packs from Lightning Rods during storms or from the Traveling Merchant.
How many Golden Walnuts are there?
There are 130 Golden Walnuts total on Ginger Island. They're found by exploring the island, fishing, completing Professor Snail's fossil donations, clearing the Volcano, and opening hidden spots.
What is the Volcano Forge used for?
The Forge on Volcano Floor 5 lets you: combine two rings into one (using Cinder Shards), enchant weapons and tools (using Prismatic Shards for random enchantments), and forge Infinity-tier weapons from Dragon Tooth + Galaxy weapons.
Can I farm crops on Ginger Island year-round?
Yes — Ginger Island is always in Summer season. Any Summer-compatible crop (plus unique tropical island crops) grows year-round without a greenhouse. This makes the island an alternative to greenhouse farming for certain crops.
How do I access the Walnut Room?
Spend 100 Golden Walnuts on the locked door in the northwest area of Ginger Island (a Parrot will indicate the door). Inside is Mr. Qi's exclusive shop and the quest radio for earning Qi Gems.
