What Are Control Modules Used For?

Control Modules are a rare resource tied to the Corpus faction, representing advanced Corpus electronic components. They are required for a wide range of crafting blueprints including Warframe component blueprints (particularly those from the mid-game planets), weapon builds, Orokin Catalysts, and Orokin Reactors. As you progress through the Star Chart, the crafting queue will repeatedly demand Control Modules.

Unlike Orokin Cells (which are Grineer-faction rare drops), Control Modules come specifically from Corpus and Corrupted enemies. This means players who focus on Grineer planets will naturally accumulate fewer Control Modules. Dedicated farming requires visiting Neptune or Void missions where Corpus and Corrupted enemies are the primary faction.

Control Modules also drop from Corpus Fusion Moas, Corpus Ospreys, and Corrupted Heavy Gunners in the Void. Eximus variants of these units have slightly higher drop chances, making Eximus-dense missions like late Survival rotations (where Eximus enemies appear more frequently) the most efficient for targeted Control Module farming.

Steps

  1. Equip Nekros with Desecrate, range mods (Stretch, Augur Reach), and efficient energy management.
  2. Bring a Smeeta Kavat with Charm precept for random resource doubling windfalls.
  3. Enter the mission and position near the main enemy corridor for maximum enemy flow.
  4. Kill Corpus units continuously, activating Desecrate after every group dies.
  5. Stay for at least 20 minutes to reach Rotation C where rare resources have the best drop weighting.
  6. Prioritize killing Corpus Fusion Moas and Eximus units — they have higher Control Module drop probabilities.
  7. If energy runs low, use Zenurik's Energizing Dash to regenerate before recasting Desecrate.

Tips

  • Neptune is mid-game content — bring a Warframe with at least 1000 EHP or strong avoidance abilities.
  • Squad play increases enemy spawn rates, generating more corpses for Nekros Desecrate per minute.
  • If you see a Corpus Cache container on the minimap via Loot Radar, always open it — caches frequently yield Control Modules.
  • Run a Resource Booster and Resource Drop Chance Booster simultaneously for a 4× effective yield increase.

Void Survival — High Density Alternative

The Void is one of Warframe's oldest tilesets and hosts Corrupted enemies — enhanced versions of Grineer and Corpus units that have been infused with Orokin neural sentry technology. These enemies drop Void-exclusive resources (Argon Crystals, Void Traces) alongside standard rare resources including Control Modules.

Mot (Void Survival) is the best Void node for Control Modules because it has the highest enemy spawn rate of any Void mission and its Corrupted enemy roster includes many Corpus-derived units that drop Control Modules. The tileset also spawns numerous Eximus units after the 10-minute mark, further increasing the drop rate.

One important distinction: Argon Crystals are also rare Void drops that decay (disappear) within 24 real-world hours. If you are farming Void missions, process Argon Crystal crafting immediately after your run. Do not let them sit in your inventory.

Tips for Efficient Control Module Farming

  • Use Nekros Desecrate — each corpse gets a 54% additional loot roll, dramatically increasing Control Module yield in dense Survival missions.
  • Bring Animal Instinct on your companion — detects resource containers on the minimap, ensuring you open every cache in the tileset.
  • Activate Resource Drop Chance Booster before farming — stacks multiplicatively with Nekros for the highest possible output.
  • Smeeta Kavat Charm doubles all resource pickups for 30 seconds when triggered — during this window, prioritize killing as many enemies as possible.
  • Focus on Eximus enemies when they appear — they have higher rare resource drop rates across all mission types.
  • Use a Carrier companion with Vacuum (or Fetch on other pets) to auto-collect resources within 12 meters, preventing drops from being missed.

Frequently asked questions

What is the fastest way to get Control Modules early in the game?

Apollodorus on Mercury is the earliest accessible Corpus Survival mission that drops Control Modules, though rates are lower than Neptune or Void. If you need them urgently early on, they can be purchased from other players on Warframe.market for a few Platinum.

Do Control Modules expire like Argon Crystals?

No. Control Modules are permanent resources that stay in your inventory indefinitely. Only Argon Crystals have the decay mechanic (disappear after 24 hours). You can safely stockpile as many Control Modules as you want.

Can I get Control Modules from non-Corpus missions?

Control Modules are primarily a Corpus and Corrupted faction drop. They rarely appear in Grineer missions. Stick to Neptune, Pluto, or the Void for reliable farming. The Void Corrupted enemies (which are augmented Corpus units) do drop them.

How many Control Modules does a Warframe build typically need?

Most Warframe component blueprints require 1–3 Control Modules. Some weapons require 2–5. Orokin Catalysts and Reactors each need 1. Expect to use 10–20 per week during active crafting. A reserve of 30–50 is comfortable.

Is the Void still a good farming location after recent updates?

Yes. Void Survival missions (especially Mot) remain one of the best Control Module farms because Corrupted enemies have good drop rates and the tileset has high enemy density. The Void also drops Argon Crystals and Void Traces, making it a multi-resource farm location.
