Understanding Neurodes and Their Uses

Neurodes are a rare resource that functions as a 'brain-like' organic component used in crafting high-value Warframe parts, weapons, and utility items. They are required for most Warframe Neuroptics components — the name itself hints at the connection. Nearly every Warframe you build will require at least 1–3 Neurodes for the Neuroptics blueprint, making them one of the most consistently demanded rare resources.

Neurodes drop on Earth (Grineer and Infestation missions), Eris (Infested missions), and on Deimos (Cambion Drift open world). Earth is accessible to early-game players, while Deimos requires completing The Glast Gambit quest and The Sacrifice. The open world bounty system on Deimos provides a reliable structured way to earn Neurodes alongside standing and other resources.

Unlike Orokin Cells, Neurodes can also be found in certain resource caches and from rare container types. Equipping Loot Radar mods (Thief's Wit or Animal Instinct) to detect containers on the minimap is worthwhile, especially in Excavation missions where the map is relatively compact.

Steps

  1. Equip Nekros with Desecrate and range mods (Stretch, Augur Reach) to maximize corpse coverage.
  2. Start the mission and kill Infested and Grineer enemies in the spawn corridors.
  3. Activate Desecrate on every group of corpses — each corpse has a 54% chance for an additional loot roll.
  4. Reach the 5-minute mark for Rotation A, 10 minutes for Rotation B, and 20 minutes for Rotation C.
  5. Rotation C on Earth Survival has a notable chance for Neurodes as a reward pickup.
  6. Run in groups of 4 for higher enemy density and life support maintenance.

Tips

  • Bring a fast-killing primary weapon to maximize corpse generation per minute for Nekros.
  • Zenurik's Energizing Dash (from the Focus system) provides free energy regen to sustain Desecrate.
  • Infested enemies on Earth also drop Nano Spores and Mutagen Samples — this farm yields multiple resources simultaneously.
  • If you do not have Nekros, Hydroid with the Pilfering Swarm augment is a strong alternative.

Deimos Cambion Drift — Best Late-Game Source

The Cambion Drift on Deimos is the most rewarding Neurode source for players who have unlocked the open world. Tier 4 and 5 bounties consistently offer Neurodes as rotation rewards alongside Orokin Cells and Deimos-specific resources. The bounties are repeatable and take 10–15 minutes each, yielding 5–10 Neurodes per run at higher efficiency.

The Cambion Drift also hosts Isolation Vault bounties, which require specific gear (Necramech) but yield the best resource rewards in the entire tileset. Once you have a Necramech unlocked (built from Necraloid parts), Isolation Vault runs become the fastest Deimos resource farm available.

Deimos bounties are offered by Son at the Necralisk hub. Check the available bounties and filter for those with Neurode rewards. Higher-tier bounties have harder objectives but significantly better resource rotation payouts — always aim for Tier 4 or 5 once your Warframe can handle it.

Additional Tips to Maximize Neurode Drops

  • Resource Drop Chance Booster — Purchased from the Market or earned from Daily Tribute. Doubles the number of resource bundles dropped (not the quantity per bundle). Worth activating before a dedicated farming session.
  • Resource Booster — Doubles the quantity of resources in each bundle. Combined with the Drop Chance Booster, resource farming becomes 4x more efficient.
  • Smeeta Kavat companion — The Charm precept occasionally doubles resource pickups for 30 seconds. This buff stacks with boosters and Nekros. Farm with a Smeeta for best results.
  • Equip Animal Instinct on your companion — Shows resource container locations on the minimap, preventing you from running past valuable cache spawns.
  • Check the Void Relic Refinement station — Occasional alert missions and Nightwave acts reward Neurode bundles directly.
  • Orokin Derelict Survival has the added bonus of dropping Forma blueprints in rotation C — a dual-purpose farm for Neurodes and crafting materials.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the best place to farm Neurodes early in the game?

Tikal on Earth is the most accessible early Neurode farm. It is a Dark Sector Survival mission that is available once you reach Earth on the Star Chart. Enemy density is good and Neurodes appear in rotation rewards. Bring Nekros if you have him unlocked.

Can Neurodes be found in Resource Caches?

Yes. Resource Caches (gold-colored containers) in missions can contain Neurodes. Using Loot Radar mods like Thief's Wit (Warframe) or Animal Instinct (companion) marks these containers on your minimap so you do not miss them.

Do Neurodes drop from bosses?

Some bosses have a small chance to drop Neurodes, particularly on Earth and Deimos. However, boss farming for Neurodes is not efficient compared to Survival or Excavation missions with high enemy density.

How many Neurodes does a typical Warframe need?

Most Neuroptics blueprints require 1–3 Neurodes. Orokin Reactors and Catalysts each require 1 Neurode. Expect to need 5–15 Neurodes per week during active crafting. Maintaining a reserve of 30–50 is comfortable for regular players.

Is Eris a good location for Neurodes?

Eris Dark Sector Survival is a decent Neurode farm, particularly because its high Infested enemy density is good for Nekros Desecrate. However, Earth and Deimos are generally more popular because they also yield other useful resources simultaneously.
